I Spent a Week Shopping During My Europe Trip—Here’s What You Need to Know!

When I booked my Europe trip, shopping was barely on my radar. I was more excited about exploring historic streets, sipping espresso in quaint cafés, and soaking in all the culture I could. At most, I imagined bringing home a fridge magnet or maybe a scarf from a street market.
But somewhere between Paris and Barcelona, that plan completely changed. What started as casual strolling became one of the most unexpectedly fun parts of my trip. I discovered so many beautiful places to shop, picked up a few smart hacks, and somehow didn’t blow my entire budget.
Paris - Where It All Began

Paris was my first stop, and I’ll be honest—I felt a little out of place at first. But I decided to give it a shot anyway.
I went to Galeries Lafayette, mostly just to see the famous dome (which is gorgeous, by the way). While shopping in Paris, I spotted a sale rack and, to my shock, found a designer bag for a price way less than I expected. I still can’t believe I actually bought something there! But the real magic happened in the Marais district. I bought a scarf that’s now my favorite travel accessory. (P.S. It was all under budget.)
Milan: Guilt Free Designer Deals

Milan was next, and I was a little nervous about it. I’d heard it was even more fashion-focused than Paris. I decided to start at La Rinascente, a huge department store with a rooftop café. The view alone was worth the visit! I ended up chatting with a sales assistant who helped me pick out a beautiful dress.
The real bargains of shopping in Milan were on Corso Buenos Aires, where I found some fun souvenirs for my family. I even got a little lost at one point, but it only added more fun and adventure to shopping in Milan.
Barcelona: All About Vibrant Quirky Shops

Shopping in Barcelona was my favorite. The city is so full of life and color, and the shopping was just as vibrant. I loved walking through the Gothic Quarter and El Born, where every little street seemed to have its own personality. I found handmade jewelry, quirky home decor, and even a little shop that sold only socks (yes, just socks!).
Passeig de Gràcia was fun for window-shopping, but the real treasures were in the smaller shops and markets. I bought some spices at La Boqueria market to bring home, and they’ve been a hit with everyone who’s tried them.
Amsterdam: Vintage Finds of All Kinds

Amsterdam was the perfect way to end my trip. I spent hours window shopping in Amsterdam and the Nine Streets, popping into vintage shops and cute homeware stores. I even found a leather jacket at Waterlooplein Market for less than €50! (I was so proud of myself for that one.) P.C. Hooftstraat was also fun for a little window-shopping.
So, how did I manage to shop my heart out on the Europe Trip without draining my bank account? Here are my biggest takeaways:
Shop During Sales: Winter sales start in January, and summer sales start in July. I scored some amazing deals just by timing my trip right.
Tax-free Shopping: If you’re not from the EU, you are eligible for tax-free shopping in Paris and other cities. Just keep your receipts and ask for a tax-free form at the store. I used the Zapptax app to make the process easier.
Carry a Reusable Bag: Many stores charge for bags, so carrying a shopping bag is always a good idea, and it’s better for the planet anyway.
Pack Light: I packed way too much, and ended up buying an extra bag in Milan.
Check Store Hours: Shops often close early on Saturdays and are closed on Sundays, except in tourist areas.
I have to say, my week spent shopping across Europe was one of the most memorable parts of my trip. I didn’t just come home with some awesome finds — I picked up so many little lessons along the way. Shopping there isn’t just about stuff; it’s a whole experience. It’s a way to really get a feel for the culture and find unique souvenirs that have their own stories.
So if you are planning a trip to Europe, keep an open mind, and get ready to dive into some serious retail therapy. Trust me, you will cherish mome.
